Robin, your analogies are excellent. As a current student, I know about that score waiting period and many years ago when I was sick for no apparent reason, one doctor scared the crap out of me by mentioning the word "lymphoma" during my exam. Several tests did not confirm his suspicion thank goodness. Now that I am in medical school, I know not to do that and I am sure it was a slip on his part as a new resident. Phrases like "good luck" and "get well" do not offer any consolation when you are waiting for a possible cancer diagnosis. Furthermore, hoping or wishing doesn't make a difference in how your results turn out and what they say, but certainly you seem prepared, and have a personal history, in what experiencing the news is going to be like, good or bad. Nevertheless, I do "hope" your news is good. However, if it is not, I bet you know exactly what to do to get started in conquering it, yet again.
